SRI LANKA great Muttiah Muralitharan has led the tributes to former national team coach Bruce Yardley, who died this week at the age of 71 after a battle with cancer.
Spinner Yardley took 126 wickets for Australia in 33 Tests, and 344 wickets overall in a first-class career spanning 24 years.
After retiring as a player in 1989-90, Yardley became a commentator before taking over the reins as Sri Lanka head coach from 1996 to 1998, where he was a staunch supporter of Muralitharan’s unusual and often controversial action.
