WHILE England Women are yet to taste victory in their quest for the Ashes Down Under, they did have something to smile about this week having been named Vitality Team of the Year at The Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards.
England won the Women’s World Cup for a fourth time this summer, beating India in a dramatic final at a sold-out Lord’s.
It was a match watched by over 1million people on Sky Sports and saw Anya Shrubsole claim 6-46 as England won by nine runs.
England rugby union team, GB athletics 100m & 400m relay squads and Wales para-cheerleading team were also nominated, with Clare Connor accepting the prize for England.
Eleanor Mills, Editorial Director, The Sunday Times said: “We’re delighted to be able to honour the outstanding sportswomen of the UK in our pioneering sportswomen awards. The Sunday Times has been championing female athletes for 30 years, and these awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate their achievements.”
