ALEC Stewart claimed on TMS that people are ‘jealous’ of Surrey. As a supporter of an Essex side that has won five times as many Championship games as Surrey, I certainly am not jealous.
I do, though, resent the way in which Surrey so often plug the gaps in their team by poaching players from less well-off counties – Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick from Durham just the latest examples.
Perhaps Dominic Sibley’s departure will help Surrey appreciate how other counties feel about losing players they want to keep.
