Second strings are no focal points for tourists

PAUL Nixon (TCP, August 11) highlighted the issue of counties fielding weaker sides against touring teams.
When Derbyshire hosted the West Indies this month, they named practically an entire 2nd XI side.
The game was tightly sandwiched between a Championship fixture and a crucial T20 Blast game for Derbyshire, so understandably the club rested its entire T20 squad.
With several decent county players who only play red-ball cricket out of first-team action for much of July and August, surely it would be better if the tourists faced either the MCC, an ECB XI or, if it is to be a county, allow ...
