SAM BILLINGS’ appointment as new Kent captain this week has sparked a scramble for the signature of predecessor Sam Northeast.
Wicket-keeper batsman Billings, 26, will lead his boyhood county in all formats next season – becoming the 35th captain in Kent’s 148-year history.
But it means that Northeast is free to talk to other counties after refusing to sign a new contract at the St Lawrence Ground.
Highly-rated Northeast succeeded Rob Key as Kent skipper in 2015 and scored almost 1,600 runs in all competitions last season.
