THERE has been something slightly artificial about the nature of the 2020 season – and now the pitches are getting in on the act too.
Hybrid pitches are being widely used in the T20 Blast – their use in first-class cricket is still outlawed by the ICC – and, by and large, their presence has gone unnoticed. And it all bodes well for the future of the tiny loops of plastic yarn that are weaved into traditional grass pitches at grounds up and down the country.
