Ex-Nottinghamshire all-rounder Will Gidman has signed for Kent following a successful loan spell at the county last season.

Nottinghamshire released the 31-year-old on the weekend after two years at the club. Gidman played in five County Championship games for Kent last season after joining them on loan in July and scored 362 runs at an average of 120.66.

He also took 10 wickets in 11 matches as Kent reached the quarter-finals of the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Gidman said of the move: “I’m really excited to make the move permanent. Kent is such as a great club with hugely exciting prospects and I feel privileged that I have the opportunity to be part of it.”

Kent’s chairman of cricket Graham Johnson added: “In his loan spell with us, Will added depth to our batting and bowling in Championship and limited overs cricket as well as being a positive addition to the dressing room with his experience and enthusiasm.

“In developing a squad to challenge at the highest level, we need a blend of experience and potential plus having depth of talent and competition for places. We look forward to his significant contribution in the future.”

The former Durham and Gloucestershire all-rounder has taken 202 wickets in 68 first-class matches at an average of just under 24, while he has scored almost 3,500 runs with an average of 40 and a high score of 143.
