JOE ROOT has tentatively opened the door on a Test return for Yorkshire team-mate Gary Ballance. Ballance has played 23 times for England at Test level, scoring four centuries in his first 10 appearances, but failed to reach the milestone again before being ousted for a third time in July 2017. However, the 29-year-old has started the 2019 domestic season in style to catch national skipper Root’s eye again.
