Batsmen win the day on a Bristol ‘shocker’

MATT MAYNARD said he was delighted with Glamorgan’s opening County Championship match against Northamptonshire despite watching his side amass 570/8 declared after batting first yet, astonishingly, trail by 180 runs after the first innings.
On a flat and ultimately much maligned wicket in Cardiff, Glamorgan put their 2018 batting woes firmly in the past thanks to centuries from Billy Root, Marnus Labuschagne and Kiran Carlson. But Northants responded with 750 runs of their own, with three more centurions — including match top scorer Ricardo Vasconcelos.
