Dan Lawrence will leave Essex at the end of the season to join Surrey on a three-year contract.
The 25-year-old came through Essex’s academy before making his first-class debut in 2015 and formed part of the club’s County Championship-winning sides in 2017 and 2019.
Essex said they offered Lawrence – who has played 11 Tests for England – a “very strong” three-year deal, but the batter has instead decided to move to The Oval.
