It was a glistening July evening at Wantage Road. Kent had bowled out Northants for 237 on the first day of a County Championship clash.
The pitch was flat, and the Kookaburra ball was there to be feasted upon. And all Daniel Bell-Drummond, padded up at No.3 behind Ben Compton and Tawanda Muyeye, could think is, ‘I need a rest’. “I was just cooked from the schedule,” says Kent’s captain. “I was thinking, ‘Compo, T, please don’t get out… I need to go to bed’. And then Compo got out.”
With the Blast and Championship dovetailing, Kent had played on 11 of the 17 days in the lead-up to the game....
