Traditionally, Yorkshire have been proud of the outstanding left-arm spinners they’ve produced over the generations – successful and distinguished cricketers like Wilfred Rhodes, Hedley Verity, Johnny Wardle, Don Wilson and Phil Carrick.
Nowadays, Yorkshire-born talent in this speciality appears to have ended, to the extent that the county today are reliant on a left armer-Dan Moriarty, 25, born in Reigate, educated in Cape Town and signed from Surrey – a background far removed from the West Riding.
