HARD yards performed during the dark winter months prior to lockdown paid handsome dividends for Worcestershire as they hit the ground running in the Bob Willis Trophy. A comprehensive eightwicket victory over Gloucestershire bore testimony to the benefits of the rigorous training regime imposed by head coach Alex Gidman and his staff.
Determined to address a chronic lack of consistency in red-ball cricket in 2019 - Worcestershire finished one place off bottom in the second tier - Gidman and his cohorts ordered a return to basics.
