ADAM Voges will miss the rest of the County Championship season after being asked to rest a hamstring injury.
Voges, 36, was set to captain Middlesex for their four remaining Division One fixtures but Cricket Australia have asked him not to play.
The batsman has played 18 Tests for Australia and featured in all three games of their recent series defeat by Sri Lanka.
He had made six Championship appearances for leaders Middlesex before that tour, scoring 388 runs this season.
Middlesex managing director of cricket Angus Fraser said: “We are naturally disappointed that Adam cannot return. He is a fine player and a highly respected member of our squad. His presence will be missed.”
