Paul Grayson has been appointed as the new coach of the Yorkshire Diamonds.

Grayson, who is the brother of football manager Simon, has signed a contract that runs until the end of 2019 and replaces Richard Pyrah as head coach.

The 45-year-old played at Headingley between 1990 and 1995, before spending eight years as a player at Essex. He moved on to coach Essex in 2007, but left the county in 2015 by mutual consent.

Grayson said of his appointment: “The opportunity to work with an elite female team is really exciting for me.”

The Diamonds will begin their campaign with a derby against Lancashire Thunder on 11 August.

They will no doubt be hoping that Grayson can help their side to improve on last season’s performance in the Super League, when they won one game in the group stage of the competition.
