Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie

JASON Gillespie ‘couldn’t resist’ the chance to move back to England with Kent snapping up the Australian as interim assistant coach.

Former Yorkshire coach Gillespie will stay at Canterbury until Allan Donald earns the qualifications needed to gain a visa and take over the role on a full-time basis.

Gillespie, 41, led Yorkshire to back-to-back County Championship titles before stepping down at the end of last season to return to Australia.

But he will now join up with new Kent coach Matt Walker, who took the role following the departure of Jimmy Adams.

Gillespie said: “Obviously I moved back to Adelaide for family reasons last year but the opportunity to assist Kent on a short-term basis was one that I couldn’t resist and works well with my current situation.

“I look forward to helping Matt Walker and (Kent captain) Sam Northeast over the next couple of months until I hand over to Allan Donald.”
