On the Spot
Date of Birth: 28/04/1983
Marital Status: Married to Jade.
Previous Clubs: Warwickshire, Derbyshire, England U19s.
The Last…
Bat you bought/used? A B3 bat – they’re quite a new company and I’m very happy with them.
CD you bought? We went to watch them, it was UB40. They were fantastic live.
Five-wicket haul or century? A five-wicket haul against Essex a few weeks ago. (We spoke to Graham before his double hundred at Guildford this week – Ed)
Injury? The toenail on my bowling foot actually came off from batting and not from bowling which was a bit strange. I hit the ball in pre-season into my foot and it put me out of pre-season. The doctor had to rip the toenail off my big toe.
Trophy you won? At Warwickshire, we made the t20 Finals day back in 2003, which was the first year the t20 was going, but the trophy cabinet is quite empty apart from junior cricket.
The Jury’s Out
Tea or Coffee? I prefer coffee definitely.
Beans on toast or pasta? My wife loves pasta, so I would probably say that.
Caribbean with the missus or Magaluf with the lads? Caribbean with my wife – Barbados as she’d love to go there. I managed to get her on a flight to Tenerife last year for our first family holiday, she’s petrified of flying. Two more trips and I’ll be able to convince her to go long-haul to the Caribbean.
Red or white wine? I slightly prefer red wine.
One Day, t20 or County Championship? I’ll go with t20 just because of the buzz and atmosphere. I’m old school in the Championship being up there for perform-ances and my goal is to help get Glamorgan promoted.
Time added on…
Who did you support as a boy? Warwickshire. I lived in Rugby most of my young life and played all the age groups and for the county.
Best coach you have ever worked with? Bob Woolmer, at Warwickshire. I was only a youngster in the team but to see him around and how he worked with the first team was unbelievable.
Who is the messiest player in the dressing room? Will Bragg. He stinks, his kit is terrible and he never washes his underwear – dreadful.
The most nervous when next into bat? Dean Cosker always looks terrified.
Person to avoid after being dismissed? It was Gareth Rees but unfortunately he’s moved on to a new career. I’d perhaps avoid myself as well if I’ve got out in a particularly bad way.
One rule you could change? I would change the no ball rule so that the batsman can decide whether they want to face another ball in the over. You would still get two runs added to your score, but sometimes when you are batting for a draw you don’t want to face another ball in the over. Alternatively, when you are on fire you want to take on the bowling and score as many as possible.
Three words to describe yourself? Entertaining, energetic, fun.
Which TV pundit makes you cringe? Bob Willis. I’m not a fan of the way he always puts down Glamorgan.
And which do you really listen to? Dominic Cork, he’s a good talker and knows a lot about the domestic and international games.
Do you have any superstitions? None.
What are your hobbies? Darts, snooker, pool and my golf is coming on. Fishing is another big one, more cricket in the back garden with my seven-year-old and obviously taking the wife shopping!
Five people you’d invite round for a dinner party? Hugh Hefner, Ali Campbell from UB40 and then Jamie Dornan would come round for the wife with family making up the numbers.
And finally:
Who is the worst dressed player at the club? Chris Cooke – a typical South African wearing sandals. On a night out he would wear jeans with his Asics trainers and a nice shirt.
