Debutant Josh Tongue tore through Ireland with a five-star show at Lord’s yesterday and admitted: ‘I’m just so happy to be here’.
The Worcestershire quick took 5-66 as England defied a spirited fightback from the visitors to clinch a comfortable 10-wicket success in this one-off Test.
And in doing so, Tongue was handed the chance to fulfil a childhood dream after being named in an unchanged 16-man England squad for the first two Tests of this summer’s five-match Ashes series against Australia.
