He may have looked like Franz Beckenbauer with a football at his feet, but during his time at Tonbridge, Zak Crawley was only truly at home in two sporting environments – the nets and the middle.
Last week, Crawley became the first England skipper educated at Tonbridge – which has helped produce more Test cricketers than any other – since Chris Cowdrey in the ill-fated summer of 1988.
And Chris Morgan, the school’s Director of Sport, tells The Cricket Paper that Crawley always appeared destined to lead on the biggest stage.
