The Cranes take flight

Having upset Zimbabwe and Kenya to qualify for their first World Cup in any format, Uganda are determined to spring another surprise at the main event. Aayush Majumdar on the emergence of a new cricketing nation on the global stage

At the heart of Uganda’s flag is the country’s national bird, the Crested Crane. Surrounded by red, black, and yellow stripes, the bird can be seen standing tall, hovering on one leg, almost as if in motion.
It signifies that Uganda is a country moving forward, and their national men’s cricket team, nicknamed the Cricket Cranes, is a case in point.
