Ben Stokes and Alex Hales have been charged by the ECB’s Cricket Discipline Commission for bringing the game into disrepute.

The England duo will attend a hearing in front of a three-man Commission panel in December following the nightclub incident in Bristol which saw Ben Stokes face criminal prosecution.

Though Stokes was acquitted of a charge of affray by a jury after a week-long trial, the ECB have brough two counts against the all-rounder and Hales for breaching the ECB’s code of conduct directive.

It states: “No-one may conduct themself in a manner or do any act or omission at any time which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket, or which may bring the ECB, the game of cricket or any cricketer or group of cricketers into disrepute.”

Stokes was withdrawn from selection for last winter’s Ashes tour while Hales missed the remainder of the series against West Indies as he assisted Avon & Somerset police with their inquiries.

The ECB suspended taking action against the duo until proceedings had been carried out by the authorities.
