The BCCI have announced the size of the bonuses they will pay to each player who contributed to India’s maiden Test series victory in Australia.
Captain Virat Kohli and co batted their way to a draw in the fourth Test in Sydney to complete something never achieved before by an Indian side touring Australia.
Their first innings declaration came with the score 622-7 and Australia could never recover at the SCG, as India clinched a 2-1 series victory.
As well as securing their place in the history of Indian cricket, every team member will reap the financial rewards, the BCCI confirmed.
Each member of the team will receive 15 lakhs (£16,800) for delivering a first win Down Under in 12 attempts, a sum similar to the match fees paid for each Test.
The national cricket board also confirmed coaches would receive 25 lakh (£28,000).
For Kohli, the series victory signified his ‘proudest’ moment in his career to date.
“It’s a proud moment. More so because for the last 12 months we understand what we have gone through as a team,” the India captain said after the draw at the SCG.
“The fact that the reward has come in the most historic series for Indian cricket is the cherry on the top of the cake.
“In the 10 years that I have played, it is the proudest moment that I have experienced and we’re so happy for the whole team.
“It is a young bunch of guys and to have that belief to keep striving for excellence on a daily basis and to get a reward like this we definitely have to be happy.”
He added: “We definitely want to build on this and always promote the message of Test cricket being the most important and the most valued format of the game, which it rightfully is.”
