Nicholas Pooran is looking towards the future after his maiden ODI hundred in what has been a largely unsuccessful World Cup outing for the West Indies.
The 23-year-old middle order batsmen struck an impressive 118 off 103 balls against Sri Lanka as he threatened to launch a comeback win.
Pooran highlighted his disappointment at failing to close out the match and that the team “are just finding ways to lose our games.”
Whilst the West Indies have now lost six out of eight matches so far in the competition, Pooran has called this World Cup “a learning experience.”
“We have a young team and a young batting line-up. Hopefully, a lot of guys like me, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope and Fabian Allen have learned from this tournament.
“Hopefully, when we play our next series against India we can start heading in the right direction and restore pride in West Indies cricket.”
With a new president in Ricky Skerritt taking charge of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) shortly before the World Cup it remains to be seen what the future holds for both West Indies cricket and Pooran.
For Nicholas Pooran, having suffered a serious injury after a car accident at the age of 19 he will hope that the West Indies can also find success after adversity.
