Covid-19: Cricket Australia staff furloughed with 80% pay cut

Cricket Australia is placing the majority of its employees on furlough until the end of June with staff being asked to take a big cut in wages.

From April 27 most staff will be on heavily reduced pay – an 80% or equivalent cut – as CA prepares itself for a drastic drop in revenue due to the ongoing global pandemic.

CA are reportedly fearing a 50% revenue drop-off as uncertainty clouds a lucrative summer for Australia, with the T20 World Cup and the visit of Virat Kohli’s star-studded India team up in the air.

In a statement released Thursday morning, CA said: “Cricket Australia – like all sporting bodies – is planning for a return to training or play although no one is certain when this will be possible at this stage, and many scenarios are being considered.

“We have made the decision during this period of isolation, where activity has naturally been reduced, to stand down our people on reduced pay (with the exception of a skeleton staff) effective 27 April for the remainder of the financial year.”
