Aussies reel over ‘average’ pitches

THE state of the pitches Down Under is likely to be high on the agenda when the country’s newly-formed Australian Cricket Council next meets.
That’s after an Aussie summer which saw the decks at Perth, Melbourne and Sydney rated as average by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Those ratings have hit Australian cricket hard and once again re-opened the debate over drop-in pitches, with many fearing that the traditional qualities of the wickets at grounds like the MCG are being lost.
