When England finally broke Lord’s hoodoo

It was June 1934 when Hedley Verity spun England to an innings victory over Australia, taking 15-104 in the match as the hosts levelled up the Ashes 1-1 in St John’s Wood.
No-one knew it at the time, but Australia wouldn’t suffer another Test defeat there for 75 years.
“It’s a special place,” says Tim Nielsen, the former Australia coach, who led his team on their 2009 tour of England.
Even in 2005, when England had wrestled back the famous urn in the most dramatic circumstances imaginable, they were soundly thumped at Lord’s, continuing a miserably remarkable run in NW8.
