EOIN Morgan is right to highlight the need to get the public to engage again with cricket. He is right, too, to see this as big a change – or, I’d suggest, challenge – as getting cricket back on free-to-air TV.
However, it is not only about getting more people to attend county cricket (of whatever format) or to talk about cricket, that is required.
We need to reverse the decline in participation in recreational cricket. Sunday cricket, in particular, is in decline, with fewer people playing regularly and clubs or teams folding.
