SCOTT BORTHWICK enjoyed some valuable time out in the middle with a century as Surrey came out on top of their drawn match with Cambridge MCCU – their last preseason encounter before today’s Championship opener with Hampshire.
Borthwick struck 14 fours and two sixes in a 142-ball 108 – and received some unlikely support in the shape of No.9 Mat Pillans, who added an unbeaten 81.
Further half-centuries from captain Rory Burns (76), Ryan Patel (56) and Arun Harinath (55) helped Surrey to a healthy 466-9dec from 97 overs.
