Sky’s Caribbean gamble proved a gamechanger

IT’S hard to imagine now but when England’s tour of the West Indies in 1990 was televised ball-by-ball by Sky, it represented one of sport’s biggest broadcasting breakthroughs.
Previously, the only way of following England tours in any great depth involved switching to long-wave and listening to the crackling tones of Christopher Martin- Jenkins or Harry Blofeld through the wireless.
