Smith steals Sam’s thunder on big return

SAM Curran wasted no time in returning to the runs as he marked his injury comeback with an impressive 91 for a Surrey side replete with first-class talent who could only draw with MCC Young Cricketers in a rain-affected Second XI Championship match (see also page 19).
The England Test star, featuring for his county for the first time since he was injured against Kent at the start of May, looked in fine fettle at the crease, but it was starlet Jamie Smith who stole the plaudits with his unbeaten 119 ensuring Surrey could declare at 340-6.
