14-year-old India student smashes unbeaten 1,045 runs in local cricket tournament

A schoolboy from Mumbai scored a whopping 1,045 not out in a local tournament on Tuesday, according to his coach.

Tanishq Gavate would have set a new world record in school cricket had the match been official, breaking the standing record set by Parav Dhanawade in a Schools’ Cup match in 2016 when he scored 1,009 runs.

Playing for Yashwantrao Chavan School over a two-day stretch, Gavate’s almighty knock came off 515 balls and included 149 fours and 67 sixes.

The team‘s coach, named Manish, explained: “Previously he used to bat at one or two down but he requested me to allow him to open the innings. After testing him in the nets with the new ball and in few practice matches, I was confident that he can do well.”

The teenager’s score will not enter the record books after a senior Mumbai Cricket Association official declared the U14 Navi Mumbai Shield was not recognised by the authority’s criteria.

The team’s coach responded adamantly arguing the match was played with the correct ball and the bowlers bowled overarm.
