ECB create managing director of county cricket position

The ECB have appointed Gordon Hollins to its newly-created managing director of county cricket positon.

England cricket’s governing body is one year away from launching its new limited overs format, the Hundred, and chief operating officer Hollins will now assume the role that will see him bring a bigger focus to the domestic game.

The ECB have been abuzz with using the phrase “Inspiring Generations” with their new five-year strategy for keeping cricket as a mainstream sport in England and Wales.

And as well as promoting county cricket to a wider audience following this year’s World Cup, Hollins will also be required to engage with clubs regarding anything from the County Championship to the Hundred.

Former Durham commercial director Hollins said in a statement: “I am thrilled to take up this position at an exciting time for the county game.

“There is some excellent work being done by people across the counties and we have a responsibility to help and support them and to ensure that the game continues to grow. We can only do that by working in collaboration with our partners – the 38 counties, Cricket Wales and MCC.”

Harrison said of the appointment of Hollins: “Gordon has demonstrated his outstanding leadership abilities over a number of years in the game. Throughout his time both at Durham and ECB, Gordon has continually impressed with his passion and commitment for cricket and especially his love for the county game.”
