Sussex students have raised over £4,000 in support of a teacher diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease through the ultimate act of cricketing endurance – a 24-hour net session!
Pupils from Worth School undertook their own leather and willow Le Mans to raise funds for MND Appeal, a campaign aiming to find a cure for the disease.
Spurred on by video messages of support from England stars Sam Curran and Ollie Pope, as well as cricketing greats Jason Gillespie and Sourav Ganguly, the group were batting and bowling from last Friday through Saturday.
With Matt Root also offering words of motivation on behalf of son and England skipper Joe and the Root Academy, the students have so far raised over £4,200.
“We were there to support them throughout, but this was an initiative organised and led by the students for a very worthy cause,” said Head of Cricket Raj Chadhuri.
“They wanted to support their maths teacher and it shows that not only do we have some hugely talented cricketers at Worth, we also have some remarkable young men and women.”
There is currently no cure for MND, with an estimated one in 50,000 people in the UK developing the disease each year. However, the money raised by Worth’s young cricketing heroes will help fund research into this area, and you can donate to the cause here.
