Hampshire’s star South African import Rilee Rossouw has revealed he is erring towards extending his stay in English cricket.

The right-handed batsman signed a Kolpak deal in 2017 to move to the Ageas Bowl, freezing an international career that had seen him represent the Proteas in 36 ODIs and 15 T20s.

And the 29-year-old shared how his desire to play for the Proteas continues to tug at his heartstrings, despite wanting to remain in England for the time being.

“It was a decision that was not made overnight. I would like to stand here and tell you all the details but I don’t think it is the right time now to do that,’ Rossouw was quoted as saying by the Sowetan.

“I still have one year left on my contract in England and I have not come to think about what the future holds. As I stand here right now‚ I probably want to keep on extending.

“I have thought about coming back to play for the Proteas many times but I am sticking to my decision for now.”

Rossouw has swapped a place in the winter nets and a brief holiday in the sun for a stint in the inaugural Mzansi Super League with the Tshwane Spartans, where he will replace all-rounder Sean Williams.

Rossouw added: “My main focus is the Mzansi Super League and it feels good to be back with some of the guys. I have played with and against some of these guys in the past and I am looking forward to the experience,’ he added.

“A week ago I was on holiday, and now I am here. The moment they phoned me‚ I told them that I was available to play in his tournament. I am very excited but not 100 percent sure what to expect,’ he added.

“I am here for a short time but I want to leave a lasting impression‚ that is something that I will try and do for the Spartans.’
