Lancashire have secured the loan services of Mark Footitt from Nottinghamshire for the opening month of the season.
The Nottingham-born 33-year-old left-arm medium-pace bowler will begin his stint for the Red Roses in two fixtures, starting with their first-class opener against Loughborough MCCC on Friday 5 April, followed by a game with Middlesex at Lord’s on 11 April.
The decision to loan Footitt comes after fellow left-arm
pacemen, Luke Wood will was loaned to Northamptonshire.
Commenting on the move, Nottinghamshire’s director of cricket Mick Newell stated: “The loan system is something we’ve used consistently for a number of years now and it works well for us.
“Once we’ve made a decision on which bowlers are going to start
a season, it makes complete sense for us that those who aren’t involved in that
to play the highest standard possible of competitive cricket.
“We can recall a player from load at any time if something
changes with regards selection or injuries.
“It’s good for Lancashire because they get use f a quality
fast bowler. It’s good for Mark getting to la first-class cricket – and if he
comes back with fitness and form having put some over in his legs, it’s also
beneficial for Notts.”
Footitt who began his professional career as part of the County Championship winning side of 2005 is currently in his second spell at Trent Bridge.
His previous spells include bowling for Derbyshire until 2010 as well as half a season with Surrey, before returning home to Notts in 2017. Ironically this is his second loan spell after having been lent to Derbyshire last season.
