Green light given for New Zealand to host day-night Test against England

will host ‘s maiden day-night after the local government granted a request by New Zealand.

Two years after they played in Test cricket’s first ever day-night match in , Australia, the Blackcaps will now host their own next March when they welcome to the North Island.

New Zealand Cricket’s chief operating officer Anthony Crummy expressed his hopes of drawing a big crowd to the match which will start on a Thursday, 22 March.

“This a very important outcome for Test cricket lovers in New Zealand – simply because it allows us the opportunity to play the game at a time when more people can engage with it,” he said.

“We’re sure it will be a very successful event, and that English and New Zealand fans alike will make the most of the opportunity.”

England’s first taste of cricket could not have gone more to plan when they beat by an innings and 209 at Edgbaston.

Kane Williamson’s side have been limited in Test action in 2017 losing a three-match home series 1-0 against back in May. Leaving the Blackcaps fifth in the Test rankings, while England lie third.
