Head coach Richard Scott leaves Middlesex after a decade

Middlesex head coach Richard Scott has left the county with immediate effect after ten years spent at Lord’s.

Under Scott, the county have gone from County Championship winners to Division Two strugglers in the space of two seasons, and the team‘s failure to reach the knockout stages of the Royal London One-Day Cup appears to have been the final straw.

Scott’s position will be filled by assistant coach Richard Johnson for the remainder of the 2018 County Championship season, as Daniel Vettori takes care of T20 Blast duties.

Middlesex managing director of cricket Angus Fraser said the search for Scott’s permanent replacement has already begun.

“On behalf of Middlesex Cricket I would like to thank Richard for all that he has given the club as Head Coach during the past 10 years; he has been a loyal, hard-working, committed and high-quality coach,” Fraser told the county’s official website.

“As with every coach in professional sport we have shared highs and lows but to play a leading role in a side winning the County Championship is a triumph very few coaches can claim.

“Under his guidance more than a dozen cricketers have gone on to gain international recognition.

“A process to recruit a new Head Coach for 2019 will commence immediately.”

Scott took over the reins in 2009 and was at the centre of a dramatic finale to the 2016 Division One season when Toby Roland-Jones claimed a match-winning hat-trick against Yorkshire to lift the trophy.

Following relegation last season, the county lays stagnant in the Division Two table with two wins from seven matches.
