Australia ended Day Two in Chittagong trailing the home side by 80 runs with plenty of batting to come thanks to an unbeaten century stand between David Warner and Peter Handscomb.
Warner starred and will resume tomorrow on 88* alongside Handscomb 69* looking to knuckle down on Bangladesh’s first innings score of 305 all out.
As temperatures peaked at 32 degrees, Australia lost the early wicket of opener Matthew Renshaw after 1.3 overs to Mustafizur Rahman but responded well after Lunch as captain Steve Smith made a half-century of his own.
A gritty 58 off 94 balls from Smith put Australia in the driving seat ready for when Yorkshire batsman Handscomb walked to the crease at 98-2.
On a day where Nathan Lyon had cleaned up the Bangladesh tail to celebrate figures of 7-94, Australian duo Warner and Handscomb batted to exhaustion for the duration of the play – Warner hitting just four boundaries from 170 balls.
Australia will look to cement their advantage in this Test after losing in Dhaka last week to hand Bangladesh their first ever victory of the Baggy Greens in red ball cricket, with a draw the best result Smith and co. can hope for.
