Yorkshire’s Arthur hopes England’s success aids T20 Blast attendances

Yorkshire chief executive Mark Arthur is hopeful that the county game will benefit from England‘s World Cup success following a final “you couldn’t write”.

The comments come after a final which saw England win on a boundary-count after ties in the 50-over match and the subsequent Super Over.

MCC member Arthur, who was at Sunday’s final, called the final “the greatest sporting moment I’ve witnessed live.” The chief executive is hopeful that the success of the national team will help boost the attendances at Yorkshire’s T20 Blast games.

“I think it will have a positive impact on the crowds for the Blast,” said Arthur.

“Conversely, I think defeat would have had a negative impact on our normal gates.

“People may have thought, ‘We’ve built up to this event for four years, we’ve been number one in the world, but we’ve been let down. I’ll find something else to do on Friday night.

“Now, I think on Friday night, Yorkshire v Nottinghamshire, which in any case would probably be our second largest home crowd behind the Roses, there will be a lot of youngsters wanting to come down and watch.

“I’m convinced it will help us.”

Yorkshire up until now have been unable to win the T20 Blast and will hope that the signings of Dom Bess and Nicholas Pooran, coupled with an increase in attendances can inspire the White Rose to T20 Blast glory.
